Endowment Releases Report on Community-Based Forestry
The U.S. Endowment for Forestry and Communities (the Endowment) today announced the release of a report and series of documents on the status of community-based forestry and community-owned forests across the U.S. (view publications). Community-based forestry (CBF) is focused on the management of forested landscapes for community and societal benefit and is carried out in diverse ways. Yet, the study found that CBF finds a unifying theme in core principles: integrating equity, sustainable forest management, and community development. “We are fortunate to have benefited from a partnership with the Community Forest Consortium who brought incredible experience and energy to this project,” said Endowment Vice-President of Community Development Diane Snyder. The Endowment believes that this information will provide solid benchmarks that will undergird work recently launched through the Forest Investment Zone Initiative and expects that the results will also benefit others in the field of study and practice.
