Resources for the Future (RFF)

Resources for the Future (RFF) is an independent, nonprofit research institution in Washington, DC that is regarded as one of the most credible and independent voices on forestry and forest policy. 

Their mission is to improve environmental, energy, and natural resource decisions through unbiased economic research and policy engagement. The Endowment supports RFF to help ensure they have a long-term presence in the forestry space and we have worked with them on several initiatives over the years including:

Addressing the ever-present challenges and volatility in the forest sector by convening a group of leaders in Washington, D.C. in May of 2013. The event was co-sponsored by the USDA Forest Service and hosted by the Society of American Foresters and RFF.

To assess the potential for sawmill residues in the wake of the many paper, composite board, and other mill closures over the past few decades, we have undertaken a study with RFF that will provide insight into material availability, new markets and potential new uses of this residual material.
